Food Experience Workshops, Ocean Walks, Mindfulness Meditations and Moving & Relaxing in our Yoga Studio
Our Food Experience Retreats will give a holistic appreciation of food – taking you from the garden, to the kitchen to the dining table. With slowing down and connecting back to nature, food and ourselves being the central focus of the retreat the schedule will include:
– Practical hands-on cookery demonstrations
– The establishment of a simple recipe repertoire to take home
– Tips on developing your wholefood pantry for ease of cooking at home
– Design guidelines on creating a calm cooking and eating environment
– A guided eating meditation that can be practiced at home
– Embodied relaxation session
It is an encounter between a person and food. Food experiences happen all the time but often we miss them as we hurry through our day. Taking the time to slow down and connect back to nature and the food we eat can greatly deepen our experience of food. Food experiences take many forms and include preparing a meal from scratch for friends and family, growing some herbs on your window sill, foraging in a hedgerow (time of year dependent), visiting a local farmers market or going out to your favourite restaurant for a meal. There are so many moments throughout the day where we can experience and appreciate food more mindfully. The Food Experience retreats create an environment and opportunity to slow down and tune into the gifts of edible nature that are to be savoured in our everyday life.
What will we be doing in our cookery sessions?
The intention for our cookery sessions is for guests to come away feeling more connected, inspired and competent. We will begin some of our sessions in the organic gardens where will see where and how food is grown and harvest the seasonal abundance for our cooking. We then make our way to the kitchen where we prepare food in a sensual and hands-on way. Guests will be encouraged to get involved in the food preparation and to tune into their senses, tasting, smelling and feeling their way through the food-making process. Guidelines will be provided to equip guests with developing a whole food pantry, a calm cooking and eating environment and how to use these practical everyday activities as a meditation.
Unique to these Food Experience Retreats are our workshops with Steph Sheahan. Steph is a Food Experience Designer and your time with her will be so much more than simply learning to cook. Steph has created a food experience based on the Sensuality, Spirituality and Simplicity of edible nature, cooking and eating. Steph excels in the creativity and approachability of our relationship with food, and her purpose is to empower you. Her expertise focuses on mindful eating, cooking as meditation and connecting to the experience with body and mind. For more about Steph please see her website Rituals of Plate.
Dinner is where we will impress you and show you how elaborate and fantastical plant based eating can be – our chefs doing what they do best!
